Bar W XYZ: Comfortably swanky
Regardless of the work week, it is almost certain that as a busy professional you will crave or need a tasty alcoholic beverage to sooth your soul. Where do you find said beverage? As a round-about-town individual, I would love to lend you a hand in your quest for an after five o’clock social escape.
I begin with this week’s journey into the ever so popular Domain shopping center. I had heard from various Facebook posts and social butterflies that a trendy, lounge-like bar had opened in the Aloft Austin Hotel at 11601 Domain Drive. I was even more interested after I did some research. Just the name of the bar, W XYZ, was enticing, so it was a given that I had to see what this bar was about.
As I entered the hotel, I felt as if I had jumped into a a jet plane and walked into the lobby of a swanky South Beach hotel bar. In reality, it was about 45 degrees outside, but it did not feel like that in this hot, fast-paced bar on a Thursday night. I made way to the bar and ordered my usual vodka tonic. The bartender was friendly and treated me like I was the only one there. To my surprise, she served my Vodka tonic in a large glass, and I was ready to shell out at least 6 to 7 dollars for my vice. My heavenly creation was only 4 dollars, and I was overcome with joy!
With drink in hand, I ventured outside to enjoy my cocktail poolside. The seating was set up to be comfortable, yet not too soft that once I sat down I wouldn’t want to get up. The music, ranging from house to pop music, seemed to surround me like a warm blanket on this cold Thursday night.
The patrons, as I like to call them, varied from trendy kids who were covered from head to toe in designer labels, to hard-working professionals who just left the office, indicated by a loosened tie. Regardless of style, everyone in the crowd seemed to equally enjoy this sultry bar. I like that it feels like a classy joint, but it has a laid-back vibe that invites all different types of people to gather. With that said, salud W XYZ, you haven’t seen the last of me.
