Bill Gammon for 147th District Court Judge

After representing the residents of Travis county for over twenty two years, both as a Plaintiff and Defense attorney, I have now decided to run for Judge in the 147th District Court.During my years as an attorney, I have witnessed far too many proceedings that have not involved the kind of fairness and adherence to the law that I feel is merited in a courtroom.  Justice is every citizen’s birthright. To accept less goes against my values and runs counter to the principles upon which our legal system is based.  As judge I will do what I can to make the law respected by making the legal system fair to everyone involved.  I feel that I bring the skills and experience necessary to help bring the Justice system into the “21st century.”

Not all of my ideas are new, however.  Some are old and quite traditional.  Others might even be considered to be as “quaint and outdated” as the rules of the Geneva Convention.  One such idea is that each person deserves respect as a human being, be they accused or accuser, criminal or victim.  Another is that the proper administration of justice requires respect for the system itself as one that produces just results, not by chance, but by design and adherence to the rules designed for the system.  There must also be respect for those who administer justice.  They must not be seen as prejudiced or even predisposed toward any particular outcome or interpretation of the law.  Most importantly they must not be considered to be prejudiced toward any particular person or organization.

That is why I will neither seek, nor accept, any campaign contributions from any source and intend to limit my campaign expenditures to an absolute minimum.  Until such time as there are strictly regulated, publicly funded elections I believe that this is the only way to ensure that candidates remain above even the appearance of impropriety and that the outcomes of elections to judicial office do not become generally viewed as other elections have become:  won simply by the highest bidder.  Justice must never again be for sale.
