Princess In Training, Inc. has crowning ceremony

Austin organization designed to prepare young ladies to be the leaders of tomorrow, Princess in Training, Inc.,  held its Crowning Ceremony with guest speaker Cora Coleman-Dunham, author of G.A.G.U. Gathering A Greater Understanding The Ultimate Life Guide for Youth at the Dell Children’s Hospital Signe Auditorium for ten girls ranging from ages 12-18 that completed the summer program.

Founder and executive director of Princess in Training, Inc., Markell Davidson, “Our biggest success was to have 10 girls begin the program and the evidence that their lives had been changed was visible by the end of camp.”  The summer camp covered leadership topics to deal with societal pressures, instill self- healthy confidence, assure self-esteem, and inspire the young ladies to seek out and achieve their dreams.

“I am very proud of our girls, they sacrificed their Saturdays during the summer to come learn about what it takes to be a leader. When asked what they would take away from their P.I.T. experience, one princess shared that college was now an option,” said Davidson. “It was because of P.I.T. that she now dreams of going to college. I was overjoyed. The feelings I experience when I see them stretching themselves and applying the things they’ve learned encourages me to continue to provide camps and workshops to help shape our future leaders. They were born to lead and they shall.”

Davidson started the organization because she wanted to touch the lives of the girls in the community and was working with girls since 2005.  “I started a girls mentoring ministry at my church.  I have enjoyed it so much,” states Davidson.

P.I.T.’s  biggest supporters are Soulciti, Maria Maria, Austin Community College, HEB, and individual financial donations.  The organization is still in need of financial support to provide the best to the young ladies in the program.  “In order to do that we’ll need financial support and in-kind donations.  We’re always looking for great places to hold the workshops,” reminds Davidson.

“Our future plans are to continue to hold the leadership camps.” Davidson.  Princess In Training will also have workshops and has been asked to consider having a Little Princess workshop.  “In a few years, I’d like for P.I.T. to expand to other cities in Texas then go national.  Our future goal is to open a charter school.” Davidson.  For more information on the group: http://www.pitleadershipcamp.com/
