City of Austin leaders want public input Monday on a plan to build 350 units over the next four years for individuals and families at risk of being homeless.
The Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Office and the Health and Human Services Department will hold two public sessions Monday to gather feedback on permanent supportive housing needs in Austin. The first community input session took place last Tuesday.
On March 25, city council passed a resolution directing staff to prioritize the city’s affordable housing resources, including federal and local money, for permanent supportive housing.
Under current city guidelines, the 350 new housing units in question would be available to families with incomes at or below 30 percent of the median family income, and, by 2010 federal standards, single persons earning at or below $15,550 annually.
The two public sessions will take place from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at 304 E. 7th St. and from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Street Jones Building at 1000 E. 11th St. in Room 400-A.
The public may submit additional comments on the permanent supportive housing plan by emailing psh@ci.austin.tx.us, or by calling (512) 974-4774.
Based on city research and the public input, city staff will present a “Permanent Supportive Housing Strategy” to Austin City Council by Oct. 1.
