Latinitas become music journalists at SXSW-inspired spring break camp

9:21 pm by admin Leave a Comment

Inspired by SXSW, Latinitas‘ 3rd annual Spring Break Camp, Get Your Backstage Pass!, focused on music journalism. Campers were invited to SXSW events as VIPs, interviewed local and national musicians, produced music videos, conducted Skype interviews, and learned how to create music blogs.  The girls were visited by local rockers Maneja Beto and interviewed them on the camp talk show, Camp Chat, to be broadcast on Latinitas’ own social media network MyLatinitas.com. Patricia Vonne also appeared on Camp Chat with an interview, a music performance, and a lesson on castanets playing.  Guest speakers in the music journalism business also visited with the girls.

The following pictures were taken by girl photographers Jasmine Blankenship and Celeste Roberts.

Maria Madrigal, photojournalist and editor, shared her experiences with the aspiring young music journalists.

Camper Miah Diaz recorded Nelson Valente and Bobby Garza of Maneja Beto performing their fan favorite song “Corazon”.

Patricia Vonne performed for the campers after her interview.

Latinitas will host multiple camps this summer, including day and overnight experiences, starting on July 1. Call (512) 322-9947 for more information or email [email protected].
