Salsa Candela Latino Party hosted by Las Comadres Para Las Americas

7:38 am by admin Leave a Comment

Salsa Candela will be kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month at Copa Bar and Grill, August 27th from 6:30PM to 9:30PM, benefiting the 2011 Hispanic/Latino/Indigenous Heritages Celebration organized by Las Comadres Para Las Americas.  The fundraiser will also include potluck and silent auction.

The tight group of friends performing, Salsa Candela, specialize in a variety of styles of dance from Cuban-style casino de rueda, cha cha cha, bachata and meringue to West Coast Swing en espanol.  Marcela Alfonsin, donator of the Salsa Candela performance says,  “The group makes parties more fun.  Events like this are a good way for all people from different countries to share their heritage and others to embrace diversity.”

Each month ladies from Las Comadres Para Las Americas, founded in Austin and expanded nationally and then internationally by Nora de Hoyos Comstock, Ph.D., meet a different home at a Comadrazo.  These gatherings are for the purpose to build meaningful relationships with other Comadres and support each other, and their communities.  Each attendee is asked to contribute by bringing enough food for 6 people.  The event at Copa will be open to the public and Comadres are encouraged to bring spouses, relatives, and friends to help in the festivities. In holding to Comadre tradition, all are encouraged to contribute to the potluck during 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

Silent auction items will include many gift certificates for a wide variety of services like massage packages, Zumba lessons, and Hertz weekend rental car.  Ethnic items like authentic handcrafted Kuna Molas and genuine leather purse from Etnik, a painting “Papel Amate” from Mexican Masterpieces, LLC, and Navajo Skin Care products made under an exclusive license from the Navajo Nation from 100% natural ingredients are available to participating bidders.  “We are passionate about preserving our culture and celebrating it,” says Julieta Alcantara founder of Mexican Masterpieces, LLC.

The money raised will benefit the 2011 Hispanic/Latino/Indigenous Heritages Celebration which will showcase the rich culture of each Latino country in dance, music, poetry, and/or history.  Recommended donation for the event is $10.00 per person if purchased before the event and $15.00 at the door.  For more information http://www.lascomadres.org/lco/lco-eng/events/salsacandela.html
