CASA seeks volunteers to advocate for abused children
April is National Child Abuse Prevention month and Court Appointed Special Advocates of Travis County, or CASA, hopes to increase awareness to this serious, often-overlooked subject. “It is not easy to talk about,” said Melia Greber, Volunteer Coordinator at CASA, “and we need to take steps to change it.” Volunteers with CASA of Travis County have been speaking up for children in child protective services (CPS) cases for 25 years. Count Me Latino rally urges everyone to return census forms
At the Count Me Latino rally on the eve of Census Day, local lawmakers urged the crowd to fill out their census forms and mail them back. The mostly Latino crowd held signs that read "Today WE count" at the event, hosted by the National Hispanic Professional Organization (NHPO), along with Hispanic Organizations Working Together as One (HOWTO). Latinitas become music journalists at SXSW-inspired spring break camp
Inspired by SXSW, Latinitas' 3rd annual Spring Break Camp, Get Your Backstage Pass!, focused on music journalism. Campers were invited to SXSW events as VIPs, interviewed local and national musicians, produced music videos, conducted Skype interviews, and learned how to create music blogs.
