Florence: Death toll rises, N.C. roads closed as more rain falls

Hurricane Florence has come and gone, but it will take time for the coastal Carolinas to recover from severe flooding and damage that has killed 18. Florence arrived early Friday as a Category 1 storm. Authorities said Monday the death toll climbed to 18. Most died in North Carolina from falling trees and other debris, and two in South Carolina died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Louisiana mayor bans Nike products from city’s recreation programs

The mayor of Kenner, La. this month banned his city's recreation department from making any purchases of Nike products, apparently due to the company's ad campaign featuring former NFL player Colin Kaepernick. Kenner Mayor Ben Zahn wrote a memo to city employees on Sep. 5 that all purchases made by booster clubs operating out of the Kenner Recreational Facility must now be pre-approved by the parks director. Judge: Trump administration must reinstate DACA

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., ruled Friday that a program giving protections to some undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children must be reinstated. District Judge John Bates gave the Trump administration 20 days to fully restore the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. National surge of younger voters linked to Parkland shooting

El Paso helps immigrant kids

El Paso-About 30 parents who were separated from their children after attempting to cross the border illegally were released from jail and on Sunday were taken to Casa Vides, a shelter in Downtown El Paso. Nearly a third of U.S. voters expect civil war within 5 years

Immigration issues and deep party divides give reason for almost one-third of U.S. voters to believe another civil war might be fought in the United States, a new survey shows. The poll by Rasmussen Reports Wednesday found 31 percent of those surveyed believe "it's likely that the United States will experience a second civil war sometime in the next five years." Mexico hits back with $3 billion in tariffs on U.S. products

Retaliating for tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, Mexico hit back Tuesday with fiscal penalties on U.S. exports like pork, steel, cheese and whiskey. The Mexican tariffs, announced last week, officially took effect Tuesday. Supreme Court rules for baker who refused cake for same-sex wedding
